Scholarships & Financial Aid
Student athletes not only need to identify the best colleges and universities, but also understand the academic, athletic and financial aid opportunities available to them.
Of the collegiate athletes in Division I, II, III, NAIA or junior college, only eight-tenths of one percent (0.08%) will receive fully funded athletic scholarships.
Student athletes need to understand that choosing which college or university to attend helps shape their lives. Many times financial aid plays an important factor within this decision.
It’s important to have an extensive knowledge of athletic scholarships, academic scholarships and available financial aid options, to help make the college choice decision even easier. For the student-athletes and their families.
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Tip Remember that January 1st is the first day you can submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. FAFSA forms are evaluated on a first come first serve basis so you are strongly encouraged to submit yours on or near January 1st. Many states have a March 1st deadline, and in some states the deadline is February. You do not need to be admitted to college to apply for financial aid! However, you must be admitted to actually receive funds.
The FAFSA form is free so there is no reason not to apply. You can get a copy of the FAFSA from your guidance counselor, from the financial aid office at a local college or by calling 1-800-4-FED-Aid. The online version is available at fafsa.ed.gov. There is also more detailed information about this form and financial aid in general on their website.
