About AYSO Region 644

History

Tradition… it is the cornerstone for everything we have ever done or will do. In 1988, West Broward AYSO changed their name to AYSO Region 644 serving the communities of Weston, Pembroke Pines, Sunrise, and all of the other neighboring cities. AYSO Region 644 - Weston, Florida has had a relatively short existence, just nineteen years, yet we have grown from 300 youth players to approximately 3,750 players in fall and spring leagues during that short period of time. Children who began in our program at the time that they were just entering kindergarten are now off to college, we believe just a little better off due to the positive experiences that they had growing up AYSO.

We have two distinct soccer seasons, one in the fall which runs from early September through early December and a second season which runs from early February through mid May. But we don't stop there… Beginning in 2006 our developmental program, AYSO Select, started as an enhancement to our regular core program. The select teams are selected by age groups (for the U10 division on up) to train, develop, and participate in AYSO inter-regional play, AYSO State Games, AYSO National Games and select soccer tournaments throughout Florida. We also offer the VIP (Very Important Player) program for emotionally and physically challenged individuals. In addition, we offer mens and ladies soccer leagues which begin in September and run through May.

Location
The City of Weston, a thriving and dynamic city of 67,000 residents, is located approximately 20 miles due west of Fort Lauderdale and conveniently situated at the cross-section of three major highways, I-75, I-595, and S.R. 869 (Sawgrass Expressway.)

AYSO/USSF/FIFA Relationship
The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) is recognized by FIFA as the national governing body of soccer in the United States. AYSO is a National Affiliate member of the USSF and a member of the Youth Council of USSF. AYSO Region 644 is one of the hundreds of regions that make up the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), which is a national association that was founded in 1964 and is located in Hawthorne, California. With more than 650,000 boys and girls between the ages of 4 - 18 years old and over 250,000 volunteer coaches, referees and administrators in 46 states, AYSO is the largest volunteer soccer organization of its kind. As part of our team, they offer each region, computerized registration, soccer accident insurance, liability insurance, centralized accounting, legal assistance, purchasing resources, eAYSO registration software, national sponsorships, Section Meetings & National Annual General Meetings, Coach and Referee training & certification courses, administrative management seminars, player skills programs, a VIP program for kids with special needs and AYSO Worlds of Soccer web site.
